I found this little gem just sitting out in the cold. It’s a Compaq deskpro 466 with: AMD AM486DX2-66 64MB EDO (came with 8 built-in) 24X CDROM (came with 2X) 1.44MB 3.5″ floppy 630MB Quantum Soundblaster 16 Value (came with SB32) Integrated Cirrus Logic CL-GD5434 1MB Integrated AMD PC-Net 10base-T NIC When I found it and booted it up, it had some half-assed Windows 3.1 install with a cool Alaskan Wildlife screensaver. I later installed the Windows 98 install you see in the video. For its age, it’s useful for email, IM, IRC, and sshing. Filmed with an LG Rumor

Warning, you will probably be bored to death watching this vid. Background: This is the worst PC I’ve got, even my Performa 475 is marginally quicker. Yeah, yeah, yeah it’s a 386s/20 not a 386/20s - either way 386sx sucks big time - I haven’t got the patience to do it all again - I might smash it. Notice how slow it is in Windows (32 bit disc) and how fast it gets into Windows (16 bit disc) all down to the “sx” - as I call it - 386sucks. Sorry about the flicker, I’ve got a 50Hz PAL camcorder… Update:I’ve added a network card (3Com 3c509) and a soundblaster 16 so you can surf the web and play Tempest 2000. Hooray! It’s just turned 19 years old and the C-MOS battery is still working! Damn those cheap Chinese CR2032 cells… The copyright demon has found my vid, so bye-bye Iron Maiden and hello something chosen at random by utube that is 10 mins long, happy days…
Installing Windows 7 Beta 7000 on a Compaq Deskpro made for Windows 95. It has a 450MHz Pentium 2, 576MB RAM, 8.4GB HDD, ATI 3D Rage Pro AGP video card with 4MB of SGRAM. Windows 7 reqiurments are a 1000MHz processor and 1024MB of RAM I would have used a video card capable of Aero but the Compaq had a proprietary video card slot that most cards will not fit in.
